Middle school social studies blog projects.

I found a blog with some classroom resources that included a neat project having middle school students write posts from the perspectives of native peoples being during European colonization. I teach middle school social studies and high school psychology and sociology so I am always looking for techniques that will work with younger and older students.  Blogging seems to be a nice fit for both.  I am looking forward to having middle school students choose groups, create blogs with multiple authors so they can edit each other’s posts.  Posts could be rotated among group members as they choose the post topics for example.  I’ve attached a link to the two locations but my comment is awaiting moderation so I can’t link directly to my comment yet but if you click on the first link and scroll down you will see my mug in my kilt!

2-C-1 Web 2.0, the classroom and professional practice.

Web 2.0 has so many tools you can get lost in it all. The important things seems to be learning the essential tools and then trying them out to see if they are helpful. When I find blogs I like I add them to my Google reader folder for education best practices. I also add things to my education technology folder. I can go to my reader and quickly skim thru the posts to see what others are doing in their classrooms. This gives me ideas to try with students. I am looking forward to rolling out wiki use fully in my classes. A wiki seems to be a step beyond a blog because students can write posts, add information and edit each other’s work.  I’ve enjoyed the information in this course but I will be more interested in how everyone implements what they are learning!
